Graveforge

The brush is the blade. A tool brand forged for miniature painters who treat their craft as ritual.

Graveforge makes Kolinsky sable brushes, brush care, and tools for the miniature-painting hobby. Warhammer, D&D, the paint-bar-and-painting-night world. I founded it and direct the whole brand: the naming system, the packaging, the illustration and photography, the product line, a growing line of original miniatures, the store, and the retail program that puts it on hobby-shop shelves. I designed every product and package, and I work directly with the brush makers, resin casters, and print shops that build them.

03 / Miniatures

The Pentagram. Five necromancers, each bearing a blade.

The brand’s own miniatures line extends the lore into resin. Each figure is a character from the Graveforge world and carries one of the five blades. Rotmage, Master of Degradation and Bearer of Dreadfrost. Velrek, Champion of the Sundered Lands and Bearer of Cryptbreaker. Bjorndoom, the frost giant who swore no necromancer would ever claim his bones. Sculpted with @wolf.miniatures, painted by @stan.v_painting, and photographed in the same candlelit black as the packaging, so the models, the brushes, and the box art read as one world.

The community paints back: painters like Katy Fear share detail work done with the Graveforge 0/3, tagging the brand in the same feed where the miniatures debut.

04 / The Challenge

A passionate hobby with no brand of its own.

Miniature painters are obsessive about their tools, but the premium brushes they buy come from fine-art companies that sell by catalog number. A Series 7. A size 0. Nothing on the shelf speaks the hobby’s own language: the lore, the metal, the ritual of a long night at the paint bar.

The opportunity was to build the first tool brand painters would want to wear, and to do it as a founder, from naming to shelf, with no legacy to lean on.

05 / Creative Approach

Treat the tools like weapons.

I built the brand around one idea, the brush is the blade, and let it drive every decision. Every brush is named and forged with its own sword mark: Bloodspiller for the finest detail, Ironspike for coverage, Cryptbreaker for the long grind, Flamesinger for blends, Dreadfrost for power. Brush care became Wraithwax and Edge Guard. Cleanse the blade, preserve the edge. The water pot says wash blood from blades.

As the brand puts it: we didn’t set out to make more hobby supplies. We set out to build an armory worthy of the artists who wield them. The product architecture followed the hobby, not the art store: a five-piece Kolinsky set that covers the whole workflow, a dry-brush set, texture sponges, care, mugs, and apparel, priced for painters and packaged with UPC barcodes so it was retail-ready from day one.

Distribution was deliberate. Direct-to-consumer first, then a small, hand-picked circle of independent hobby shops, the kind with a paint bar and people who will talk brushes for an hour. We keep the stockist list short on purpose.

The brush is the blade. Keep it sharp.

07 / Leadership Takeaway

Graveforge is a niche market with a near-perfect product fit: painters who already treat their tools as ritual, finally handed a brand that speaks their language. The tools earned the trust, and the trust is what lets the IP grow. Named blades became named necromancers, necromancers became resin, and the world keeps extending because every piece is built to the same standard. Naming a brush “Bloodspiller” is the fun part. Getting it barcoded, boxed, reviewed, and stocked is the job, and it’s the part I’ve come to respect most.
